Easy Halloween Brownie Bats - featured image

These spooky and delicious Halloween treats combine chewy chocolate brownies with tangy cream cheese frosting, cut into bat shapes for a fun, last-minute party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 standard 18-ounce box brownie mix
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 to 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • White chocolate chips (optional, for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine brownie mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and water. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  4. Let brownies cool completely in the pan. This is crucial to prevent the frosting from melting.
  5. While brownies cool, beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
  6. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Beat on low until incorporated, then high speed for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  7. Spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the completely cooled brownies.
  8. Using a sharp paring knife, cut the frosted brownies into bat shapes.
  9. Melt chocolate chips in 30-second intervals in the microwave. Use a toothpick to place dots for eyes on the brownie bodies.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set the frosting and chocolate before serving.

Notes

Ensure brownies are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting. For gluten-free options, use a certified gluten-free brownie mix. For dairy-free, substitute with dairy-free cream cheese and butter alternatives. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
