Turn your leftover Halloween candy into the best cookies you’ll eat all year. This easy, no-chill recipe uses a sturdy sugar cookie base to hold chopped candy bars, creating crisp edges, chewy centers, and pockets of melted caramel and chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 cups assorted Halloween candy, chopped into ½-inch pieces (e.g., Snickers, Milky Way, Twix, Kit Kat, Reese’s Cups)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Chop the candy into rough ½-inch pieces. For soft candies, freeze for 10 minutes before chopping. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down sides.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Add vanilla and beat until combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing on low until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold chopped candy into dough with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed.
  8. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough (about 1.5 tablespoons each) and place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Slightly flatten tops with palm.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers look slightly underdone.
  10. Let cookies cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill dough for 30 minutes if using hard chocolate pieces to prevent spreading. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top before baking if candy is very sweet. Store cookies in an airtight container with a slice of white bread to keep soft. Freeze baked cookies for up to 3 months or freeze raw dough balls for up to 3 months.
