A quick and easy refreshing hydration drink made with fresh watermelon, mint, lime juice, and a touch of sweetener. Perfect for summer, this agua fresca is hydrating, delicious, and customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups seedless watermelon cubes (about half a medium watermelon)
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 to 3 cups cold water
  • 12 tablespoons sweetener (honey, agave syrup, or sugar) – optional
  • Ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut the watermelon into cubes, removing rind and seeds if necessary. Measure about 6 cups (900 grams) of watermelon cubes.
  2. In a blender, combine watermelon cubes and fresh mint leaves. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth and vibrant.
  3. Optionally, strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large pitcher, pressing with a spatula or wooden spoon to extract juice.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice. Taste and add 1-2 tablespoons sweetener if desired. Mix well.
  5. Add 2 to 3 cups cold water to adjust consistency. Stir to combine.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld. Serve over ice with a mint sprig or lime wedge garnish.

Notes

Use fresh, vibrant mint leaves and bruise them slightly before blending to release more aroma. Adjust sweetness based on watermelon ripeness. For a pulp-free drink, strain the mixture. Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to 2 days. Add sparkling water for a fizzy twist or a splash of tequila or rum for an alcoholic version.
