Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 1 bunch asparagus (about 1 pound, woody ends trimmed)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (unseasoned)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (toasted, for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Position the rack in the upper third of the oven. Take salmon out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the asparagus: rinse, pat dry, snap off woody ends. Toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Make the honey garlic glaze: in a small bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil (if using), and red pepper flakes. Set aside 2 tablespoons for basting later.
  4. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
  5. Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat with remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil until shimmering.
  6. Place salmon fillets skin-side down in the hot skillet. Cook without moving for 3-4 minutes until skin is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Flip each fillet. Immediately brush or spoon about half of the reserved glaze over the cooked side. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  8. Scatter seasoned asparagus around the salmon in a single layer. Dot butter over asparagus and around the pan. Drizzle remaining glaze over salmon and asparagus (save the reserved 2 tablespoons).
  9. Transfer skillet to the preheated oven. Roast for 8-12 minutes, depending on thickness and desired doneness.
  10. Remove from oven. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over everything. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and sesame seeds. Drizzle reserved 2 tablespoons of glaze over the top.
  11. Let rest in the pan for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Pat salmon dry for best sear. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Watch garlic closely to avoid burning. Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness (125°F for medium). Let pan do the work for charred asparagus. Reserve glaze before brushing raw fish to avoid cross-contamination.
