A quick and cozy fall snack featuring tender apples coated in cinnamon and caramelized brown sugar, made effortlessly in the air fryer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples (about 1 pound / 450 grams), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/2-inch thick wedges (Fuji or Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar (about 25 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (about 14 grams), melted
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice 3 medium apples into roughly 1/2-inch thick wedges.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter, 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and optionally 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir until sugar dissolves slightly and mixture is well combined.
  3. Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss gently until every piece is coated in the cinnamon-brown sugar mixture.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes.
  5. Place coated apple slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding. Cook in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry apples at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket or flipping slices halfway through (around 5-6 minutes) for even cooking and caramelization.
  7. Check for tenderness and caramelization; add 1-2 more minutes if softer apples are desired, watching closely to avoid burning.
  8. Serve warm immediately, optionally with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt.

Notes

Preheat the air fryer to ensure even cooking and caramelization. Avoid overcrowding the basket to prevent soggy apples. Adjust cooking time if your air fryer runs hotter or cooler. For vegan version, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan margarine. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the air fryer at 320°F for 3-4 minutes.
