Sweet, salty, and shaped like little hands, these white chocolate Halloween popcorn treats are the perfect cozy snack for a Halloween party or a quiet night in. Made in under 15 minutes with simple ingredients, they bring back nostalgic bakery memories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups popped popcorn (about 1/2 cup unpopped kernels, or use 1 bag of plain microwave popcorn)
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips or melting wafers (recommended: Ghirardelli or Guittard)
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 1/2 cup candy corn or candy eyes (for decorating)
  • 1/4 cup pretzel sticks (optional, for adding ‘fingers’)
  • Orange and black sprinkles (optional, for festive touch)

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using your preferred method. If using an air popper, follow manufacturer’s instructions. If using the stovetop, heat a large pot over medium-high heat, add a tablespoon of oil, and pop the kernels until the popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops. Transfer to a large bowl and let cool completely to room temperature.
  2. Prepare your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Have your decorations ready.
  3. Melt the white chocolate: Fill a small saucepan with about an inch of water and bring to a simmer. Place a heatproof bowl on top, ensuring it does not touch the water. Add the white chocolate chips and coconut oil. Stir gently with a rubber spatula until mostly melted, then remove from heat and continue stirring until completely smooth.
  4. Coat the popcorn: Pour the melted white chocolate over the popcorn in the bowl. Use a rubber spatula to fold gently until every kernel is coated.
  5. Shape the hands: Lightly grease your hands with a tiny bit of coconut oil. Scoop up a generous handful of coated popcorn and gently squeeze it into the shape of a hand (a base for the palm and five smaller sections for fingers). Place each shaped hand onto the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all popcorn is used.
  6. Decorate: While the chocolate is still wet, press candy corn or candy eyes into the ‘fingers’ to look like fingernails. Add a pretzel stick to each hand for longer fingers if desired. Sprinkle with orange and black sprinkles. Work quickly as the chocolate sets fast.
  7. Set and serve: Let the popcorn hands set at room temperature for about 15 minutes, or refrigerate for 5 minutes. Once the chocolate is firm, they are ready to serve.

Notes

Use room temperature popcorn to prevent chocolate from becoming runny. Lightly grease hands with coconut oil to prevent sticking. Do not overheat white chocolate; melt slowly and remove from heat while a few solid pieces remain. A pinch of sea salt at the end balances sweetness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month.
