This cozy slow cooker garlic butter Chex Mix is the perfect savory snack for game days, movie nights, or any time you crave something salty and crunchy. Made with a blend of Chex cereals, pretzels, and a rich garlic butter sauce, it’s easy to prepare and incredibly addictive.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 4 cups Corn Chex cereal
  • 4 cups Wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups mini pretzels
  • 4 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter with garlic (5 minutes): In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and just starting to bubble. Do not let it brown. Remove from heat and stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and cayenne if using. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients (5 minutes): In a large mixing bowl, combine the Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Wheat Chex, and mini pretzels. Gently toss with your hands to distribute evenly.
  3. Pour the garlic butter mixture (3 minutes): Slowly drizzle the garlic butter mixture over the dry ingredients while stirring constantly. Ensure every piece is coated evenly.
  4. Transfer to slow cooker (2 minutes): Pour the coated mixture into a 6-quart or larger slow cooker. Spread it out evenly without packing it down.
  5. Cook on low (2 hours): Set the slow cooker to low. Cook for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. This redistributes the butter and prevents burning.
  6. Check for doneness (2 minutes): After 2 hours, the mix should be golden and crispy. If still soft, cook for another 15-30 minutes, checking every 10 minutes.
  7. Cool completely (30 minutes to 1 hour): Spread the finished mix onto parchment-lined baking sheets in a single layer. Let cool completely before storing.
  8. Final seasoning check (2 minutes): Once cooled, taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Add a pinch more salt or garlic powder if desired.

Notes

Let the garlic butter mixture cool slightly before pouring over cereal to prevent sogginess. Stir every 30 minutes without fail to avoid burning. For the crispiest results, cool completely before storing. The flavors improve after a day or two.
