A stress-free, rustic cranberry sauce made with dried cranberries, fresh orange juice and zest, and sugar. This slow cooker recipe requires only five ingredients and minimal prep time, making it perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag (12 oz) dried cranberries
  • 2 large fresh oranges (for juice and zest)
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges under warm water. Zest one orange, ensuring you only get the orange part and avoiding the bitter white pith. Finely mince the zest.
  2. Cut both oranges in half and juice them to yield approximately 1 cup of juice.
  3. In the slow cooker, combine the dried cranberries, fresh orange juice, and water.
  4. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over the mixture and stir gently with a wooden spoon to help dissolve the sugar.
  5. Add the fresh orange zest and stir to distribute evenly.
  6. Cover and cook on High for 2 hours, stirring once halfway through.
  7. Check consistency; if too thin, cook for another 30 minutes. If too thick, add a splash of water or juice.
  8. Once desired thickness is reached, turn off the slow cooker and let sit with the lid on for 15 minutes to thicken further.
  9. Stir once more before serving warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Dried cranberries are preferred for this method; fresh cranberries require adjusted liquid and longer cooking times. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. For a spiced version, add a cinnamon stick or clove during cooking. To reduce sugar, substitute with monk fruit or reduce granulated sugar to 1/4 cup.
