These small-batch pumpkin chocolate chip muffins are incredibly moist, tender, and packed with warm pumpkin spice and melty chocolate. Perfect for a cozy morning or a late-night craving, they come together in just 25 minutes with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (120g) pumpkin purée
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (50g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons (57g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup (60ml) whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (85g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line 6 cups of a muffin tin with paper liners or grease them well.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter and both sugars together until smooth, about 1 minute. Add the pumpkin purée, egg, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Whisk until completely smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Use a rubber spatula to fold them together gently until just combined (10-12 strokes). A few lumps are fine.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the 6 muffin cups, filling each about ¾ full.
  7. Bake for 16 to 19 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. The tops should be golden and spring back lightly.
  8. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra domed tops, let the batter rest in the muffin tin for 5 minutes before baking. Don’t overmix the batter to avoid dense muffins. Use room temperature ingredients for best texture. Measure flour by spooning and leveling or using a kitchen scale (120g).
