A warm and cozy holiday cocktail that balances sweet maple syrup, smooth bourbon, and tart cranberry juice. Perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas parties, or a quiet winter evening by the fire.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon (e.g., Buffalo Trace or Bulleit)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) 100% pure cranberry juice (e.g., Lakewood or Ocean Spray Pure)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) real maple syrup (Grade A Dark Amber preferred)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh orange juice
  • Ice (large cubes preferred)
  • Fresh rosemary sprig for garnish
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Fresh or frozen cranberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine 1 oz (30 ml) maple syrup and 1 oz (30 ml) fresh orange juice. Stir gently for 1-2 minutes until the syrup is loose and fragrant. Do not let it boil.
  2. Pour the warm maple-orange mixture into a cocktail shaker. Add 2 oz (60 ml) bourbon and 2 oz (60 ml) cranberry juice.
  3. Fill the shaker with ice cubes (about 4-5 large ones). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  4. Fill a lowball glass with fresh ice. Strain the cocktail into the glass. For a cleaner look, double-strain through a fine-mesh strainer.
  5. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig (gently slapped between palms to release oils), a thin slice of orange, and a few fresh or frozen cranberries.

Notes

Don’t skip warming the maple syrup with orange juice—it prevents the syrup from seizing and helps flavors meld. Use large ice cubes to avoid dilution. For a non-alcoholic version, swap bourbon with strong brewed chai tea or sparkling water. The unshaken mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
