These Easy Witch Finger Pretzel Rods are a quick, fun, and budget-friendly Halloween treat that looks genuinely creepy but tastes amazing. Made with just pretzel rods, green candy melts, sliced almonds, and red decorating gel, they come together in about 20 minutes and are perfect for parties, school events, or a spooky afternoon with the kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1216 pretzel rods
  • 1 cup (about 6 ounces) green candy melts
  • 2432 sliced almonds (natural, unroasted)
  • 1 small tube red decorating gel
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or shortening (optional, for thinning candy melts)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Melt the green candy melts: Place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until smooth (about 1-2 minutes total). If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon coconut oil or shortening.
  3. Set up your decorating station: Arrange sliced almonds and red decorating gel nearby.
  4. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by the top end and dip the bottom two-thirds into the melted green candy. Gently twist as you pull it out to let excess drip off. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Add the almond fingernail: While the candy coating is still wet, press a sliced almond onto the tip of the pretzel rod, pointed end outward. Press gently to stick.
  6. Add the red gel detail: Using the red decorating gel, add a small dot or line at the base of the almond ‘nail’ to look like nail polish. Optionally add a tiny dot at the tip.
  7. Let them set: Allow to sit at room temperature until firm, about 15-20 minutes. For faster setting, refrigerate for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Add extra creepy details (optional): Add a small dot of green candy melt to the ‘knuckle’ area for a wart, or use a toothpick to create wrinkle lines.

Notes

Don’t overheat candy melts; use 50% power in microwave. Work in small batches if making a large batch. Press almond firmly but gently. Let set completely before moving. Do not freeze. For nut-free version, skip almonds and use white chocolate or candy corn for fingernail. For gluten-free, use gluten-free pretzel rods.
