These classic creamy pimento cheese tea sandwiches are a perfect blend of creamy, tangy, and mildly spicy flavors, ideal for parties or casual snacks. They are quick to prepare and loved by both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (200g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup (75g) jarred pimentos, drained and chopped
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) mayonnaise
  • 4 oz (113g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp (5ml) yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) garlic powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 12 slices soft white bread, crusts removed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cheese Mixture (10 minutes): In a mixing bowl, combine shredded sharp cheddar, chopped pimentos, softened cream cheese, and mayonnaise. Blend with a hand mixer or food processor until smooth and creamy. If mixing by hand, beat vigorously until well combined and spreadable.
  2. Add Flavorings (2 minutes): Stir in yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Mix well and adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Prepare the Bread (5 minutes): Trim off the crusts from each slice of white bread to create neat rectangles. Lightly toast if desired, but soft bread is preferred.
  4. Assemble the Sandwiches (5 minutes): Spread about 2 tablespoons (30g) of the pimento cheese mixture evenly over half of the bread slices. Top with the remaining slices and press gently.
  5. Cut and Serve (3 minutes): Slice each sandwich into small rectangles or triangles. Arrange on a serving platter and cover with a clean kitchen towel if not serving immediately.

Notes

Use freshly shredded cheddar cheese for creamier texture. If you want a lighter version, swap half the mayo with plain Greek yogurt but avoid making the spread too runny. For gluten-free, use gluten-free bread. Assemble sandwiches shortly before serving to avoid sogginess. Store in an airtight container lined with parchment paper in the fridge for up to 2 days.
